Common questions

What should a health and safety induction cover?

Emergency exits and procedures, first aid, the hazards in the person’s work and how they’re controlled, protective equipment, which equipment needs training, how to report incidents and hazards, wellbeing policies, and their rights and responsibilities.

Is a health and safety induction a legal requirement?

In most countries, employers must give workers the information, training and supervision they need to work safely. For example, OSHA in the US, Australia’s work health and safety laws and the UK’s Health and Safety at Work Act all set this duty. An induction is how most businesses meet it.

Do contractors need a safety induction?

Yes. Anyone working on your site needs to know your emergency procedures, the hazards and how to report an incident. Many businesses use a shorter site induction for contractors, plus the contractor’s own safety checks.

How can I prove every worker was inducted?

Keep a signed and dated record for each person. In Wikidoc, the induction becomes a training module with a quiz, assigned to every new starter, and you can see who has completed it and when.
