Common questions

What should a new hire onboarding checklist include?

Paperwork and access before the start date, a welcome, tour and safety induction on day one, training on the role’s core procedures in the first week, and check-ins at the end of the first week, the first month and probation. This template covers each stage.

How long should onboarding take?

Most onboarding plans run from the signed offer to the end of probation, often three months. New hires in simple roles may be working on their own within days; complex roles take longer.

Who is responsible for onboarding a new employee?

The hiring manager owns it. HR or the office manager handles the paperwork and access, a buddy helps day to day, and the new hire completes their training. Write the owner next to each task.

Can onboarding be run in Wikidoc?

Yes. Document each task the new hire must learn as an SOP, put the training in order as a training program with due dates, and new hires in that role are enrolled automatically. You can see who has finished each module.
