Common questions

How often should gym equipment be inspected?

Staff should look for obvious damage every day, run a detailed check like this one every week, and have the equipment serviced as often as each maker says. Busy gyms may need to inspect high-use machines more often.

What should staff do when equipment fails an inspection?

Take it out of use straight away with an out-of-order tag, and block it off or unplug it so no one can use it. Record the fault, tell the manager, and keep it out of use until it’s repaired and checked.

Is an inspection the same as a service?

No. An inspection is a quick check by staff for wear and damage. A service is the maintenance a qualified technician does on the maker’s schedule. You need both, and records of both.

Why keep equipment inspection records?

If a member is injured, a dated record shows the equipment was checked and faults were acted on. Insurers often ask for it. In Wikidoc, keep each machine in a register with its service date, and run the inspection as a weekly checklist.
